Opel has announced plans to launch a redesigned Astra Convertible in 2013.

Details are limited, but it is interesting to note that the press release doesn't mention the current TwinTop moniker. This could imply the car will receive a new name or lose the folding metal roof, but nothing is official as of yet.

Regardless, the convertible will be built in Gliwice, Poland and go on sale alongside the new Allegra city car.

According to Opel & Vauxhall CEO Nick Reilly, "The new Convertible will be a great addition to our product lineup. It follows the long-standing tradition of highly emotional and legendary Opel/Vauxhall Cabrios that provided important halo effects on our brand. With its sleek and elegant design, our new Convertible will fully deliver on that same promise."
