A first look at the new Citroen C5 Aircross hybrid and EV

Expected in 2025, it will be very similar to the concept unveiled in Paris earlier this year.

At the Paris Motor Show, Citroen gave us a first glimpse of what the new generation C5 Aircross will look like. Based on the Stellantis Group's STLA Medium platform, the five-seat C-segment SUV will have to contend with competitors such as the Volkswagen Tiguan and Hyundai Tucson, as well as various domestic rivals such as the Jeep Compass and Alfa Romeo Tonale.

But what will its final appearance look like? Let's try to imagine it with our render.

A near-production prototype

Our render takes its cue from the concept shown in Paris. While futuristic, the prototype takes up several styling elements found on the latest Citroens, which is also why we think the production model will have a fairly similar look.

Space, therefore, is given to taut, broken lines, especially at the front, where the Citroen logo stands out in the centre of the grille and the very slender two-tier headlights. The lower grille is also very squared off, while the flanks feature large rims measuring at least 19-20 inches. The rear end should also echo the look of the concept, with a flat tail and a large tailgate to make loading luggage easier.

As for dimensions, the concept is 4.65 metres long (+15 cm compared to the current C5 Aircross) and 1.66 metres high. Two values that we could find on the production model.

Engines and prices

Overall, the Citroen's aesthetics have been designed to be as aerodynamic as possible, so much so that flaps and air intakes have been integrated into various parts of the car. This has important consequences for the overall efficiency of the car, regardless of the type of powertrain.

What do you think?

Speaking of powertrains, the new C5 Aircross will have a rather comprehensive engine range. We could find petrol mild hybrid, petrol plug-in hybrid and - for the first time - even 100 per cent electric versions.

It's hard to say we have a confirmation for the 131 bhp 1.5 BlueHDi diesel, while the power of the other versions could grow. The electric version should share the engines and battery with the Peugeot e-3008 and e-5008, with power outputs of 213 bhp (and 320 bhp in the dual-motor versions) and range in excess of 310 miles.
