New petrol Macan possible? Porsche denies

Contrary to reports on the Internet, there are no current plans

Porsche will continue to develop combustion engines. We published this news last year, and more detailed rumours about possible new models have been circulating again in recent days. We also initially reported that some Porsche insiders (who remain anonymous) had speculated in the British magazine Autocar about a petrol version of the new Macan that had not yet been unveiled.

The Stuttgart-based company has now officially denied this rumour. A new combustion-powered Macan is not currently in the pipeline, they told our colleagues at Motor1 Italy.

The Macan EV's debut on the market has been a positive one, with 18,278 units sold. "This start has inspired us in the truest sense of the word," said Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG. "Overall, we have shown great strength in 2024, even in a difficult market environment. We have invested heavily in our brand and are pleased to note that the distribution of our sales in the individual regions of the world has remained very balanced," continued von Platen.

In most countries outside the EU, Porsche continues to offer the Macan with a combustion engine, of which 64,517 units were delivered. A total of 82,795 Macans were delivered worldwide, 5 per cent fewer than in the previous year. This figure should be seen in the context of the production stop of the Macan with combustion engine in Europe and the parallel gradual introduction of the Macan EV.

Porsche delivered a total of exactly 310,718 vehicles in 2024, including 50,941 Porsche 911s (up 2%) and 23,670 718 Boxsters and 718 Caymans (up 15%). In contrast, 20,836 Taycans were delivered to customers, a drop of 49%, which is partly due to a facelift and generally weaker demand for electric cars.

The Cayenne was already thoroughly revised in 2023 and established itself as the bestseller among Porsche's six model series in 2024. A total of 102,889 units were delivered to customers, an increase of 18 per cent compared to the previous year. Finally, the Panamera recorded 29,587 deliveries, 13 per cent fewer, which is mainly due to lower demand on the Chinese market.

Targets and prospects for 2025

Looking ahead to 2025, Detlev von Platen said: "With the youngest product range in the company's history, our offering is very attractive for our customers. At the same time, we assume that the economic and geopolitical conditions in 2025 will challenge us more than ever".

"However, our goal is to continue to strengthen our brand worldwide and realise the market potential," he added. In doing so, we will orientate ourselves to the development of demand in the individual regions in order to remain true to our value-oriented sales principle in the future."
