The Peugeot Landtrek, which was presented for the first time in 2020, is the successor to the brand's glorious pickup history - from the 202 of 1938 to the 404 of the 1960s and the 504 of the 1970s. The latter was built as a pickup in Nigeria until 2005, which shows its importance in Africa.

This is why there is now the Landtrek, which shares the platform with the Changan Kaicene F70. It is produced by the Chinese company Shenzhen Baoneng Motor. The Landtrek is active in the one-tonne pickup segment, of which 2.5 million are sold worldwide every year. It is sold in around 40 countries, primarily in Africa, the Middle East and South America.

The range includes a wide choice of engines, three basic configurations (cab, single cab or double cab chassis) and versions for professional and multi-purpose use (business and leisure). Now Peugeot has revised the Landtrek. There is a brand new, very efficient diesel engine with 200 PS as well as numerous design and technical updates.

The new Landtrek features a redesigned vertical radiator grille with the new brand emblem in the centre. This radiator grille is equipped with LED daytime running lights in the shape of the brand's typical claws. The design emphasises efficiency and robustness with a reinforced lower part of the front section and new, gloss black surrounds for the fog lights.

The new rear bumper combines style and protection. New Peugeot lettering modernises the rear tailgate between the LED tail lights in 3D. The dimensions of the Landtrek are in line with the market class: the double-cab version is 5.33 metres long, while the single-cab version is 5.39 metres long and 1.92 metres wide.

The loading area has a width of 1.22 metres between the wheel arches. It has space for two Euro pallets in the double-cab configuration (1.63 m x 1.60 m x 500 mm load area) and three Euro pallets in the single-cab configuration (2.43 m x 1.60 m x 500 mm load area).

The design of the dashboard of the new Landtrek revolves around a spacious centre console and a large central 10-inch HD touchscreen. Below the centre screen, the familiar toggle switches provide quick access to the most important functions. Another new feature is the digital 7-inch instrument cluster.

At the front, there is a choice of two individual seats with a centre armrest or a multiflex 3-seater bench seat. The centre section can be folded down to create an armrest or storage area. Alternatively, the centre section and the front passenger section can be folded down to load items weighing up to 75 kg.

The folding rear seat backrest offers the option of splitting the seat surface 60/40 or 100 per cent. Once folded down, the backrests can carry an additional load. The vehicle cab offers a width of 1.55 metres in the second row and a legroom of at least 50 mm. Seven grab handles in the cab ensure good accessibility. Smaller items can be conveniently stored in the 27 litres of storage space.

What do you think?

The Peugeot Landtrek is equipped with a 2,184 cc four-cylinder turbodiesel with 200 PS and a torque of 450 Nm. The new engine can be combined with the new eight-speed automatic transmission EAT8. It is equipped with an electronic control unit that facilitates gear selection and efficiently controls the engine's torque. A six-speed manual gearbox is also available for the new engine.

The introduction of the new engine, depending on the country, aims to fulfil as many needs as possible and adapt to each market. The new Landtrek will also be offered with a 1.9 litre diesel engine with 150 PS and 350 Nm of torque (in combination with a six-speed manual gearbox) and a 2.4 litre petrol engine with 210 PS and 320 Nm (in combination with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox).
