Toyota robot enters Guinness World Record for basketball shots
He took a shot from 25 metres, making a basket and getting the new record for the longest shot by a robot
What you see in the photos is the latest evolution of the humanoid robot developed in their spare time by Toyota volunteer engineers. It is called Cue6 and in September it achieved a new Guinness World Record for the longest shot by an artificial being: 25 metres.
The sixth generation
In detail, the robot that achieved the record is the sixth generation robot, hence the code name of Cue6. It is an AI-powered humanoid that, according to the company, achieved its goal on the second attempt after 'bouncing' off the hoop the first time.
On the first attempt, in fact, according to some experts in the sport, the robot had an independently corrected incorrect posture, adding more force to its shot on the second, just as a professional basketball player would have done.

During the test, Tomohiro Nomi, number one of Toyota's CUE project, said:
"Using artificial intelligence based on the robot's structure, it learned and thought of the throwing style that would be most effective."
Not the first record
Toyota's achievement of 'sports' records with these humanoid robots is now a tradition and it is, in fact, not the first. In May 2019, for example, the third-generation 'Cue3' model had set the first Guinness World Record for 'The greatest number of consecutive basketball free throws by a humanoid (assisted) robot', with 2,020 shots taken.
