The new Toyota Supra could have up to 600 PS - it will not be electric

It could arrive in 2027 and there is talk of a four-cylinder. It will be fully developed by Toyota

Toyota is laying the groundwork for the next generation Supra. With the current model about to retire in the course of 2025, the Japanese manufacturer is already at work on the successor, which will have a completely different construction philosophy and engine.

No, the Supra will not become electric - at least in the short term - but it may abandon the six-cylinder engine for good. In Japan, in fact, it is rumoured that the new Toyota will be a four-cylinder hybrid.

First information

According to Japanese sources, the next engine could be a 2-litre unit developed entirely by Toyota and compatible with synthetic fuels. The basic non-electrified model is expected to generate 400 PS, while the hybrid versions (it remains to be seen whether mild or full) could exceed 430 PS. And there is even talk of almost 600 PS for a hypothetical top-of-the-range racing variant.

In all likelihood, rear-wheel drive will be retained, while eight- or ten-speed automatic transmissions are under development. What is most important, however, is that the new Toyota Supra will be completely 'Made by Toyota'. The project will be handled entirely by the brand and the collaboration with BMW will be abandoned.

The design and interior will therefore look very different from the current model, which shares many components (and engines) with the BMW Z4

Farewell (or rather, 'goodbye') with the Final Edition

The new Toyota Supra is expected to make its official debut in 2027, although an earlier unveiling in 2026, immediately after the end of production of the A90 generation, is not ruled out.

What do you think?

Speaking of which, if you are impatient and can't wait to get your hands on a Supra, you might want to think about the Final Edition. This special version has the 3.0 six-cylinder engine boosted to 435 PS and 570 Nm, thanks to a series of mechanical and electronic tweaks on the engine by Toyota's GR department.

There is also a new Brembo braking system and oversized tyres, as well as a KW sports set-up reminiscent of the GT4 racing models. Finally, the package is completed by new interior upholstery and Recaro Podium CF seats in Alcantara.
