Europe Is Getting The Chinese Lancia Stratos, And We're Jealous
The Chinese sports car makes 429 horsepower and will hit 62 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds.
The Breakdown:
- China’s SC01 electric sports car will go on sale in Europe.
- It has two electric motors producing 429 horsepower, and it can hit 62 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds.
- The EV weighs just 3,009 pounds, which is similar to a Porsche 718 Cayman.
There’s a sharp new sports car that Americans won't be able to get their hands on, sadly. It’s called the SC01, and it's a Chinese electric coupe inspired by the Lancia Stratos. Now, it's officially headed to Europe.
The SC01 has two electric motors producing 429 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, which means it can hit 62 miles per hour in a claimed 2.9 seconds. The 60.0-kilowatt-hour battery sits just behind the passenger compartment, where you would normally put a combustion engine in a mid-engine car.
Despite the electric powertrain, the car weighs just 3,009 pounds, which is similar to the Porsche 718 Cayman. It has a tubular space frame chassis, an aluminum body, and a pushrod suspension.
The car has a wedge-shaped design that looks like a cross between the Stratos and a Tesla Roadster. It measures 161.8 inches long, which is 7.7 inches longer than a Mazda MX-5 Miata.
Inside, the SC01 looks like a throwback. It has a single screen behind the wheel for instrumentation, and that’s it. There’s no large infotainment—just a row of physical controls for the climate. It even has a traditional handbrake.
SC01 Europe hasn’t announced when the car will go on sale in Europe or how much it will cost. The company will only allocate 1,000 units to the continent. The company will release more details soon.

Motor1’s Take: This is the perfect platform to maximize the electric powertrain’s full potential. It’s a lightweight sports car with 429 horsepower and supercar-like acceleration. The battery might not last long, given that the car can sprint to 62 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds every single time, but that’s fine for that kind of fun. Sign us up.
