Kia Tasman: This is what a Land Cruiser rival could look like
Although not confirmed, the SUV version of the pickup is dealers' desire in several countries.
After the official presentation of the 2025 Tasman and Kia's entry into the global medium pickup market, new rumours are now emerging about possible variations of the model. This is the case with a SUV variant, which is being strongly speculated about, even though it hasn't even been confirmed by the brand. The SUV variant is desired by many dealers and would be positioned as a rival to the Toyota Land Cruiser and the likes.
Although the parent company has yet to comment, the project would not be difficult to develop from a technical point of view. The platform of the Tasman itself could be used, including the body-on-frame chassis layout that offers great robustness. The main difference would be the replacement of the leaf springs with coil springs at the back. In the competition, practically all models adopt this same solution.
The engine could also be the same as in the Tasman, including the 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel from the CRDi family with 210 bhp, as well as the 2.5-litre petrol turbo with 281 bhp. The gearbox would be a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic, depending on the version. The 4WD layout and different driving modes would also be retained.
On the visual side, a rendering published by the Russian website Kolesa gives us a general idea of what the model would look like. The exotic lines would be exactly the same as the pickup, with differences only in the rear design. The interior could also be the same, including a dashboard with integrated 12.3-inch digital screens and a Harman Kardon sound system. Naturally, there would be more space for rear-seat passengers.
