Hampshire resident John Davies has landed the bragging rights as the first person in the United Kingdom to take home the much-hyped Dacia Spring, the country's most affordable electric car. And no, he didn’t camp outside the dealership or enter a flashy contest – he just wanted to go electric.

The delivery took place earlier this month at Martins Dacia in Basingstoke, where John’s Dusty Khaki Spring in the Extreme trim was ready and waiting. The Dacia veteran, who’s already cruised around in a Sandero Stepway and a Duster, said he ordered the car back in June after a bit of online detective work. Apparently, the Spring had him at "budget-friendly EV," and as a loyal Dacia fan, he didn’t even need a test drive to seal the deal.

“As you can probably tell, I am a big fan of the Dacia brand and the quality of the service from the team at Martins Dacia. I was really keen to get an electric car and had complete trust in Dacia, so knew the Spring would be good and was happy to order it before seeing one. The Spring is perfect for commuting to work and will make my journeys cheaper,” John Davies commented after the purchase.

The Spring, for those not in the know, is on a mission to make electric cars as common as a rainy day in Britain. Its price tag starts at a wallet-friendly £14,995, which is practically a steal in the EV world. And while it might not burn rubber with its 45- or 65-bhp options, its 140-mile range (or 186 miles if you're sticking to city streets) should cover a week of errands for most folks. Plus, it can gulp down an 80 per cent charge in less than an hour if you’re in a rush.

What do you think?

“This is a real milestone for Dacia, in so many ways. The first all-electric Dacia on UK roads also being the country’s most affordable new electric car is the perfect demonstration of everything we strive for as a brand – to offer customers exceptional value for money in a robust package that offers everything you need and nothing you don’t. We wish Mr Davies many happy miles of emissions-free motoring,” Luke Broad, Dacia Brand Director for the UK, said.

Dacia unveiled the UK version of the Spring in March, which went on sale a few months later.
