'Hard Brake Detected:' DoorDash Driver Rams Neighbor's Truck. Then She Delivers Food and Takes Off
‘I’m sure she got the bad end of the deal."
A homeowner says she caught a DoorDash driver on camera hitting her neighbor’s truck, delivering the food, and then driving away. People think she deserves 5 stars.
TikTok creator Jodie Marie Selby (@jodiemarieselby) posted Ring security camera footage from the front of her home on Jan. 26. The video shows a man waiting around for a DoorDash order before briefly returning to the home. After about 20 seconds, a white sedan comes speeding down the road. It smacks hard into a truck parked across the street from Selby’s home before reversing a few feet away.
The occupant exits the vehicle and glances at the truck before retrieving a bag of food, crossing the street, and handing it to the man, who just so happened to walk back outside seconds after the crash. Oblivious to what had transpired, the man takes the food from the DoorDash driver, who gets back in her vehicle and drives away—presumably to another delivery.
In the caption, Selby writes, "When your DoorDash driver rams your neighbor’s truck, delivers your food, then takes off."
Viewers React to the DoorDash Hit-and-Run Caught on Camera
In the comments, viewers had a field day with the purported DoorDash hit-and-run caught on Ring camera.
"She said ‘oopsie’...and bounced," joked one.
A second person quipped, "‘Hard Brake Detected.’ IYKYK."
"She even delivered it," praised a third viewer. "That is what makes it even funnier."
Others focused more on the practical matters. "Why would she drive off? Even if her insurance didn’t cover it, DoorDash’s would," asked one.
‘I’m sure she got the bad end of the deal," said another. "The front of her car is messed up."
A Short History of DoorDash Hit-and-Runs
Generally, DoorDash drivers need to secure rideshare coverage on top of their personal car insurance. DoorDash does have its own commercial insurance to cover instances like the one shown in the video, but that is only tapped if the dasher’s insurance won’t approve the claim.
While DoorDash conducts a background check during the registration process and tells its drivers that they need to maintain insurance, it’s unclear whether the company tracks policies beyond that.
That might have something to do with the numerous DoorDash hit-and-run stories spread across the internet. A Reddit user posted to the r/DoorDash sub two years ago to get advice after being allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident involving a DoorDash driver.
Earlier this year, a couple shared Ring camera footage of a DoorDash driver hitting their vehicle and driving away. The couple said DoorDash initially appeared resistant to helping them track down the driver. The driver was later identified and reached out to the couple to apologize.
And 10 months ago, a Texas DoorDash driver was caught on surveillance footage crashing into a home and driving away like nothing happened. One person in the Youtube comments joked, "House needed a remodel anyway!"
