'Any Time a Company Is Willing to Send You a Check So Fast, SUE:’ DoorDash Driver Crashes into Woman's Garage. Now What?
'As a fellow DoorDasher why you parking in the driveway?'
People are urging this woman to sue after a DoorDash driver crashed into her garage.
While DoorDash offered a resolution that the customer seemed satisfied with, some commenters think she deserves more compensation for the damage, inconvenience, and potential danger she was in.
Why Did the DoorDash Driver Crash?
In a series of viral videos totaling more than 1.2 million views, content creator Brianna (@briannalynne95) showed the events leading up to the sudden crash into her garage.
“Let me be the reason you cook at home! Door dash driver hit my garage door today,” Brianna said in a caption.
In one of the videos, you can see that the Dasher parked her car at the edge of the driveway, and it steadily starts to roll forward until it rams into the customer’s garage door.
After what was likely a constant day doing deliveries, she was so locked in on the task at hand that she forgot to put the car in park—a mistake that could easily cost her hundreds or even thousands of dollars in repairs, and that’s just for the garage door.
Her car, however, seemed unscathed.
When the Dasher realized what was happening, she immediately jumped in the car to put it in reverse, but by then, it was too late.
With a sunken heart, she put her hands up on her head and started pacing back and forth, clearly shaken by her mistake.
“Oh lord,” she kept repeating.
Commenters say that, to her credit, the person stayed behind and owned up to their mistake instead of driving off.
Brianna noted that she was “chillin,” and in the video, she did appear to remain quite calm.
Did DoorDash Fix It?
In another video, you can clearly see that the white garage door is all bent out of shape, but it seems DoorDash was willing to take care of the damage and sent someone out to get a quote on a repair.
While it ultimately took two months, DoorDash did replace the garage door and sent Brianna a check for $4,405 for the repair.
“Garage isn’t the exact same garage as prior, but grateful DoorDash took responsibility on behalf of the dasher,” Brianna said.
In the text overlay, she added that she still uses DoorDash, and apparently, her house has become legendary with the neighborhood kids because of the fiasco.
What Is DoorDash’s Official Policy?
DoorDash offers third-party auto liability coverage that kicks in in specific situations and has different coverage depending on the state.
The coverage only kicks in while a Dasher is on an “active delivery,” which starts when a delivery request is accepted and ends when the delivery is completed or canceled.
Generally, a Dasher is covered for up to $25,000 for damage to or destruction of property in an accident, so the garage door fell well within the coverage amount.
Commenters Weigh In
“Any time a company is willing to send you a check so fast, SUE. They are scared of a lawsuit & know you will win,” a top comment read.
“Funny how they didn’t pay me a single penny for my totaled car I got via dashing for them. SUE THEM!! Check isn’t high enough,” a person shared.
“So I’m a dasher I never pull in someone’s driver like I live there… I mostly pull on the street this is wild .. but I will say owner of DD is loaded he’s rolling in the dough,” another chimed in.
