Florida Speeders Beware: There's a New C8 Corvette Cop Car

Seized in a partnership with the DEA and repurposed for duty, this C8 has all the equipment to write you a speeding ticket.

Police cars aren’t really cars anymore. SUVs dominate law enforcement fleets, but that doesn’t mean officers are limited to driving family vehicles with fancy lights and liveries. Police departments dabble in enlisting the occasional sports car, especially those they seize from criminals. The Florida Highway Patrol is the latest to do just that, adding a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray to its garage.

In what appears to be a now-deleted Facebook post, the Florida Highway Patrol revealed it seized the sports car in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency Task Force. The state didn’t use taxpayer dollars to purchase the Corvette. However, the coupe did receive an upgrade to ensure it’s ready for duty, which the agency will also use for promotional events.

The Corvette wears the FHP’s two-tone livery with custom State Trooper lettering on the rear fenders. It also has two-tone powder-coated wheels, carbon badging, and the necessary lights for patrol. Inside, the Chevy has all the kit needed for running down speeders, including a printer for issuing citations. It's incapable of transporting any prisoners, though, obviously.

This Corvette, a 70th-anniversary edition, packs Chevy’s 6.2-liter LT2 V-8 engine, which makes 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Chevy claims the car can hit 60 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds and reach a 194-mph top speed, meaning not much will be able to outrun the FHP’s new, free Corvette patrol car. You better watch out.
