Women's favourite cars: These models are vying for the 2025 title
Women's Worldwide Car of the Year finalists named. Meanwhile BYD wins for best technology and Volvo for gender equality
The Women's Worldwide Car of the Year is one of the international car awards held each year. The finalists for 2025 have just been announced, with cars winning in the different categories: 4x4 and Pick-Up, Compact SUV, Large SUV, Large Car, Performance and Luxury Car and Urban Model. The WWCOTY Supreme Winner will be announced on 6 March, two days before International Women's Day.
Meanwhile, the judging panel, made up of 82 specialist journalists from 55 countries around the world, awarded BYD the Best Tech Award 2025, recognising the company's excellence in technology, with a focus on - according to the citation - "innovation, impact, user experience, creativity, scalability and the overall value of the technology already implemented in a car".
Volvo, on the other hand, was awarded the Sandy Myhre Award for its commitment to gender equality, with initiatives such as safety dummies for pregnant women and a partnership with Girls Who Code.

The WWCOTY Supreme Winner, which last year was won by the Kia EV9, will be announced on 6 March, two days before International Women's Day.

The World's Best Tech Award
The Best Tech Award 2025 is the first in the series and has been created because technology is now a critical aspect of the automotive sector, not only in terms of safety, but also for passenger entertainment and vehicle connectivity in current and future transport systems.
According to the jurors of Women's Worldwide Car of the Year BYD has made a huge breakthrough in electric mobility with its Blade lithium-ferrophosphate battery technology, 'because it offers higher energy density, improved safety, reduced fire risk, longer life than conventional batteries, and longer range'.
The Chinese carmaker was also awarded because it has also made progress in plug-in hybrid technology with the DM (Dual Mode) system and its two approaches: DM-i for efficiency and low fuel consumption and DM-p for high performance.
The Sandy Myhre Award
The Women's Worldwide Car of the Year also decided to include among its awards the one for the most female-sensitive car brand. "The Sandy Myhre Award - named after the founder of WWCOTY - will highlight manufacturers' commitment to women in the areas of workplace inclusion, product design and advertising campaigns, among others," the note reads.

Volvo won the 2025 Award because it has long demonstrated its commitment to women. It has a large female representation in the workforce and in 2023 formed a partnership with Girls Who Code, an organisation working to close the gender gap in technology.
