China's electrified cars sell more than 1.5 million units
New record for sales of electric cars and plug-in hybrids in China, setting a third consecutive record: the figures.
In September, there were almost 1.3 million, in October over 1.4 million and in November around 1.51 million. The figures represent sales of NEVs (New energy vehicles, a combination of electric cars, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen-powered cars) from China, which are outperforming and setting new records every month. This is now the third month in a row.
A record (or rather a series of records) that gives an idea of the growth of the sector in the Land of the Dragon, at the very moment when Europe is facing a black crisis.
Nearly one car in two is a NEV
In detail, 1,512,000 NEVs were manufactured in the shadow of the Great Wall, including 1,429,000 for the local market (+53.8% compared with November 2023 and +9.7% compared with October 2024) and 83,000 for export.
| Chinese NEVs in November | |
| Sales | 1,512,000 (1,429,000 in China and 83,000 abroad; 908,000 BEVs and 604,000 PHEVs) |
| Market share | 45,6% |
The market share of zero or low emission cars in China is therefore 45.6%. In practice, almost one car in two is electric, rechargeable or hydrogen-powered. Fully electric cars dominate, with 908,000 units registered (+7.8% compared with the previous month), followed by 604,000 PHEVs (plug-in electric vehicles) and a few hydrogen-powered vehicles.
BYD wins
As ever, BYD dominates the rankings, with 506,804 NEVs delivered, including 198,065 BEVs (Battery electric vehicles, i.e. 100% electric cars). Geely (122,453 NEVs, including 9133 BEVs) and SAIC (176,869 NEVs) complete the podium.
