Here's who got 5 stars in the latest Euro NCAP tests
Audi A5, Renault 5, Volvo EX30 and many other cars featured in crash tests. Here are all the grades
Many cars were given top marks in the latest round of crash tests in 2024 by Euro NCAP. The independent body that verifies the safety of new models has released the data and scores for no fewer than 14 models (plus one specific trim).
The tests not only cover the actual crash tests, but also analyse the consequences for pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists in the event of impact with the car. In addition, important weight is also given to the presence of ADAS and their functioning in various types of scenario. Here, then, are all the cars in the tests.
Alpine A290 - 4 stars
Alpine A290
The electric hot hatch scored four stars. What partly penalised the Alpine A290 was some shortcomings in the equipment of the driver assistance systems.
In particular, Euro NCAP highlighted the lack of a device capable of detecting the driver's 'distracted gaze'. In addition, the car was not effective in some emergency braking tests (e.g. a child crossing the road at night suddenly emerging from parked cars at the side of the road).
It should be noted, however, that most current cars have some difficulty in these borderline scenarios.

Audi A5 - 5 stars
Audi A5 Avant
Top marks for the successor to the Audi A4. The A5 scores very well in all tests, giving up a little only in terms of ADAS, where it scored 77 per cent. In this case, Euro NCAP pointed out the ineffectiveness of the system that prevents the doors from opening when a cyclist is approaching.

Deepal S07 - five stars
Deepal S07
Five stars also for the Deepal S07, a Chinese SUV produced by the giant Changan. We may see it in the UK in 2026, but in the meantime it is making headlines for its high score, especially in adult protection (95 per cent).
Some slight flaws in the tests dedicated to pedestrian recognition and emergency braking, with ADAS not always perfect in the various tests (74% overall).

Hyundai Santa Fe - 4 stars (5 stars with Safety Pack)
Hyundai Santa Fe
The boxy Korean SUV achieves four stars in the basic equipment. The new Santa Fe scores well in adult passenger and child protection, but falls short in pedestrian protection and ADAS effectiveness.
Shortcomings that are compensated for by adding the optional Safety Pack. This Euro NCAP-tested trim, in fact, finished the test with five stars.

Leapmotor C10 - 5 stars
Leapmotor C10
The Chinese SUV on which Stellantis 'bets' gets five stars. The protection of adults and children is excellent (89% and 85% respectively) and the ratings for pedestrian protection and driver assistance systems are also high.
Slightly below average is the performance of the driver monitoring systems.

| 89% | 85% | 77% | 76% |
Lexus LBX - 5 stars
Lexus LBX
Lexus' premium B-segment crossover gets five stars, with balanced scores in all four areas of the Euro NCAP test. Of particular note is the effectiveness of the various ADAS systems in both daylight and night tests. The LBX only pays something in terms of driver monitoring, which is only operational from 65 km/h (in other cars it is already active from very low speeds).

Maxus eTERRON9 - 5 stars
Maxus eTERRON9
The Chinese electric pick-up truck (part of the SAIC Motor group) achieves five stars by offering high protection for all occupants and also scores high marks in pedestrian protection and driver assistance (84 per cent and 83 per cent respectively, among the best values for 2024).

Mazda CX-80 - 5 stars
Mazda CX-80
The CX-80 (the 'stretched' CX-60 with the third row of seats) also gets five stars and high marks in all areas of the test with a few points lost only in emergency braking in the event of an oncoming (or approaching too fast) motorbike.
| Adult protection | Child protection | Vulnerable road user protection | Driver assistance systems |
| 92% | 88% | 84% | 79% |
MG ZS Hybrid - 4 stars
MG ZS
Four stars for the revamped full hybrid SUV, newly updated in looks and equipment. Still a good result for a model that relies so much on a competitive price. While the equipment in terms of ADAS is more than satisfactory, the MG pays the price in adult protection, where it scored only 75 per cent.
Side impact is particularly critical, with rear passengers being thrown around excessively, according to Euro NCAP tests.

| 75% | 82% | 73% | 76% |
Mini Countryman - 5 stars
MINI Countryman
With the Mini we are back to talking about a five-star model. However, compared to other cars that received top marks, the Countryman had a few too many problems in the case of frontal impact, with just enough marks for front and rear passenger.

| 83% | 87% | 81% | 79% |
Porsche Macan - 5 stars
Porsche Macan
The new generation of the 100% electric Porsche Macan (at least for now) scored five stars. Scores of 90 per cent in adult and child protection, while in the cases of pedestrian protection and ADAS equipment it fell slightly to 83 per cent and 78 per cent respectively.

Renault 5 - 4 stars
Renault 5 E-Tech Electric
The Renault 5 scored essentially the same as the Alpine A290, scoring four stars. A result that comes as little surprise when you consider that the two cars share many components, although the A290 has a slightly more aggressive look, as well as a number of dedicated powertrains.
| Adult protection | Child protection | Vulnerable road user protection | Driver assistance systems |
| 80% | 80% | 76% | 68% |
Subaru Forester - 5 stars
Subaru Forester
The Subaru Forester achieves five stars with excellent values especially in child protection (89%, among the best ever) and pedestrian protection (86%). Only 72%, on the other hand, for ADAS, with some criticality in automatic braking in the event of a head-on collision with another car.
| Adult protection | Child protection | Protection of vulnerable road users | Driver assistance systems |
| 83% | 89% | 86% | 72% |
Volvo EX30 - 5 stars
Volvo EX30
The electric crossover achieves five stars. Substantially very positive scores for the EX30, which achieves 88 per cent in adult protection. Also high is the 80% achieved in the case of ADAS equipment.
| Adult protection | Child protection | Vulnerable road user protection | Driver Assistance Systems |
| 88% | 85% | 79% | 80% |
