We saw Jaguar's first new era model in person, and it's decisively pink

The Type 00 concept was unveiled in Miami in pink and blue. And it looks like a 'batmobile'

Jaguar has done something unique: it has created the world's first car that gets noticed by everyone before it even exists. The Type 00 is this and much more. A communication phenomenon that put the British brand in people's mouths like never before in its 90-year history. And it is exactly that history with which Jaguar felt the need to break all ties.

The new logo, which has already caused a stir, was just the appetiser. Now there is the car. Or rather, the "physical manifestation" of the Jaguars of tomorrow: an even more controversial object, with an exuberant aesthetic designed to provoke strong reactions.

We had the opportunity to witness it in person, and in this article, we will try not only to describe the vehicle, but to get you into its design logic. Before you judge it, perhaps without appeal.

A five-minute close encounter

The first impression is destabilising. It doesn't feel like a real car. The Type 00, with its butterfly-wing doors and a brass key-totem to be inserted in the centre of the console to start the vehicle, looks like something out of a science fiction film. Even the colours reinforce this feeling: Pink Miami, a tribute to the city of the presentation, is bold and divisive. For the more traditionalists, Jaguar has also planned an elegant blue, visible in the official renderings.

The shape of the Type 00 is reminiscent of a mix between a 1990s Batmobile and a cartoon car, with a theatrical twist that could even make it perfect for Cruella Demon's legendary Excalibur. Long, low, exaggerated.

Bold design and real materials

So the proportions of the Type 00 are extreme: a super coupe at least five metres long, with 23-inch wheels, and an exaggeratedly long bonnet. The squared-off front end retains only a hint of the Jaguar 'feline', embodied in the very slim front headlights, while the classic jaguar is relegated to a side plate, depicted as it leaps in the opposite direction to the old logo. And this is no accident.

The rear is perhaps the most innovative part: a horizontal grille integrating the lights, eliminating the rear window in favour of a boot with a pantograph opening. The interior, equally futuristic, combines minimalism, and fine materials. The essential dashboard merges with a floating central tunnel separating driver and passenger. Natural fabrics, brass and even travertine decorate the interior, adding a touch of craftsmanship.

An interesting detail is the philosophy behind the totem key: starting the vehicle takes time and attention, turning an everyday gesture into a ritual. In a world dominated by the speed of touch controls, this Jaguar invites you to slow down, to live in the moment. Which today has unfortunately become a luxury.

A strategic shift: from premium to luxury

Behind the Type 00's provocative aesthetic lies a precise strategy: to reposition Jaguar as a luxury brand. The plan is ambitious: the first car inspired by this concept will be a four-door saloon, expected in 2027, with a base price of at least £100,000. We have already seen images of some camouflaged prototypes of it, which we repropose here to show you how similar the proportions of the Type 00 are to those of the real car whose technical specifications have not yet been disclosed, except that it will be 100 per cent electric.

Cheaper models? There will never be any. Jaguar aims to create exclusive cars for the few, carving out a space for itself at the top end of the market. This transformation is not just a choice, but a necessity. In an increasingly competitive industry, it is no longer sustainable for Jaguar to compete with premium car giants like the Germans or the new Chinese giants.

What do you think?

The solution? Limited production, extreme quality, and a niche positioning. And from this perspective, the fact that not everyone likes it is not a problem, but an opportunity.

P.S. Do you think Elon Musk will like it?
