One of the Mustang6G forum members has ordered the optional carbon fiber wheels for the Shelby GT350R and he was kind enough to show how much they cost.
A stock Shelby GT350R Mustang is expected to start at $61,370, but if you want to upgrade to carbon fiber wheels you will end up paying approximately 50% more as these cost around $30,000, so most likely only a handful of people will be willing to pay that much for such an option.
Pricing aside, the wheels itself are actually very impressive as each one weighs only 8.1 kg (18 lbs) which is a lot less than a traditional aluminum wheel that tips the scales at 14.9 kg (33 lbs). Shelby says the GT350R Mustang fitted with these wheels is going to provide "unprecedented chassis performance, massive weight savings and improved driving dynamics."
The wheels have been developed in collaboration with Australian supplier Carbon Revolution and were intensively tested to make sure these will be able to handle UV exposure, curb strikes and extended exposure to intense heat. The wheels actually come with a ceramic coating that can handle temperatures of more than 1652 degrees Fahrenheit (900 degrees Celsius). No less than 61 individual checks are done for each wheel while more than 18,000 X-ray images are taken to guarantee everything is in order.
