Campagna T-Rex
The Canadian Campagna T-Rex is probably among the most badass three-wheelers that have ever been produced. Aside from its imposing exterior design, the T-Rex has something under its hood that might surprise you.
The T-Rex had different types of engines throughout its existence, but the most notable is its 20th Anniversary Edition that's powered by an inline 1.65-liter six-cylinder BMW engine. It can produce 160 horsepower at 7,750 rpm and 129 pound-feet of torque at 5,250 rpm. It also features a fully adjustable stage 5 suspension and a high-performance braking system with ventilated and drilled discs and steel braided brake lines.
Carver One
Unveiled in 2002, the Carver one the first car in history with three wheels and a tilting body.
It had two side-by-side seats and was powered by a four-cylinder gasoline engine that can churn out 68 horsepower, enough to accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 8.0 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 115 miles per hour.
Elio P5
The P5 uses a three-cylinder 0.9-liter gasoline engine that can put out 55 horsepower. It has a top speed of 99 miles per hour, and can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 9.6 seconds. Best part of it is its fuel economy that's rated at 84 miles per gallon.
With its size and mobility, the P5 was created by the Elio Motors with the intention of changing American mobility. But it may or may not push through due to the company's financial problems.
Mazda K360
This small three-wheeled truck was built in 1959 and managed to become one of the most popular work vehicles in Japan, thanks to its excellent maneuverability in narrow streets.
The K360 is powered by a two-cylinder engine located under the passenger compartment. In addition, Mazda offered new things with this type of vehicle of that era, such as a steering wheel (instead of a handlebar), a safety windshield and a wide cabin, two seats, two doors, and windows.
Morgan 3 Wheeler
Among the three-wheeled vehicles, the Morgan 3 Wheeler is perhaps the most prominent and classic-looking with its World War I tricycle aesthetics.
It's powered by a two-cylinder gasoline engine in front of the passenger compartment, which produces 82 horsepower. Surprisingly, it has a Mazda five-speed manual transmission in its mechanical construction.
Polaris Slingshot
Although Polaris is a manufacturer specializing in snowmobiles and quads, it also has a three-wheeled motor vehicles called the Slingshot. It has two wheels at the front and one at the back. Its waterproof interior is equipped with a tilt-adjustable steering wheel and two side-by-side bucket seats.
Interestingly, the Slingshot's engine is derived from GM, particularly the 2.4-liter Ecotec engine that produces 173 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque.
Reliant Regal
The Regal was a small three-wheeled car manufactured by the Reliant Motor Company in the United Kingdom. Even better, it had a van version, which is kind of peculiar. In the U.K., it's considered as a tricycle, therefore, you could drive a Reliant Regal before with just a motorcycle license.
This quirky three-wheeled vehicle was produced by the British marque from 1953 to 1973.
Toyota i-ROAD
Toyota created the i-ROAD concept as an urban mobility vehicle for personal use. It combined the potential of both cars and motorbikes, while weighing only 300 kg (661 lbs) and measuring 2350mm long, 1445mm tall, with a 1700mm wheelbase.
The i-ROAD concept might be a small vehicle but it's a two-seater, powered by two 2-kW electric motors mounted in the front wheels getting power from a lithium-ion battery pack.
Benz Patent-Motorwagen
Interestingly, the first car in history equipped with an internal combustion engine only had three wheels. It was the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, which was built in 1885 by Karl Benz, one of the founding fathers of Mercedes-Benz.
The Benz Patent-Motorwagen was powered by a small two-stroke 1.0-liter engine that can produce 0.66 horsepower.
Vanderhall Venice Roadster
There's a confusion in the U.S. whether we consider the
Vanderhall Venice Roadster as a motorcycle or a full-fledged car. In some states, like California, it's considered as motorcycle, while others, it's indeed a car.
Nevertheless, the Venice Roadster looks like a fun car to drive. It has two wheels at the front, one at the back that serves as the guideline. It has a monocoque aluminum chassis, which is propelled by a 140-horsepower turbocharged gasoline engine.
