An Atlanta man scheduled an appointment to test drive a truck and says he got an unpleasant surprise upon arrival.

In a TikTok that’s generated over 70,00 views as of this writing, Jay (@jray0249) describes his recent experience with a GMC dealership.

“This is the worst experience at a dealership I’ve had so far. At Rick Hendrick GMC in Duluth, Georgia. Go ahead and leave them a bad review after watching this video,” he begins.

The Atlanta man says he inquired about a 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 Duramax at the dealership. He then purportedly got in contact with the sales manager to schedule an appointment to test drive the vehicle. The phone call took place at 5 p.m., he says, and the appointment was scheduled for noon the next day.

The sales manager reportedly contacted him the morning of the appointment.

“I am looking forward to seeing you today. You can test drive the AT4. Maybe today we can get the numbers right and get you in this truck,” the sales manager said, according to Jay.

Jay says he later made the trip to the Duluth dealership, assuming everything was set for the test drive. Upon arrival, Jay claims a salesman went to fetch the key only to discover it wasn’t there.

Neither was the truck, he says.

“We sold that truck at nine o’clock last night,” the salesman reportedly told Jay.

“What do you mean you sold it last night? Your sales manager, the guy that should know the inventory of what he has, what he doesn’t have or when it’s sold and has been sold, he told me this morning to come up here to test drive it so maybe we can get the numbers right and buy it,” Jay says he replied.

This discovery left Jay frustrated and angry. “Test drive what? What [expletive] AT4. You sold it last night. What the [expletive] are y’all doing,” he says in the TikTok.

He wants people to leave the dealership bad reviews based on his experience. His audience wasn’t inclined to answer his call to action, however.

“Why would I leave a bad review because you had a bad experience?” one wondered.

“Why would anyone other than you leave a bad review, unless they have had a bad experience there? Sounds like a mess up, the truck was sold after the manager talked to you, and he didn't realize it. An honest mistake,” another replied.

“It happens dude. That manager may have been gone home by the time they sold that truck,” a third wrote.

“Yes, everyone makes mistakes, but this seems to be a common problem with this dealership,” Jay wrote in the comments.

How Common Is This?

Selling a truck before the appointment is definitely frustrating especially after being contacted in the morning to confirm it. However, it does happen. At the end of the day, dealerships are in the business of selling cars.

As one purported former car salesman wrote on Reddit, “Unfortunately that’s business. You might show or you might not show. But there’s this guy right here, right now that’s going to buy it. Hummmmmm. It definitely goes to the first sure thing unfortunately.”

While this isn’t ideal, it does happen.

Rick Hendrick Buick GMC currently is rated 4.7 out of 5 stars on Google Reviews with 7,790 reviews. According to Review Tracker, the average star rating for the automotive industry is 4.21, which makes Rick Hendrick GMC dealership well above average.

Todd M recently left a 5 star Google Review for a new 2021 Duramax AT4 he bought at the dealership, which is the same truck mentioned in the post. Todd was quite satisfied with the purchase.

What do you think?

"Just bought a 2021 Duramax At4 long distance from these guys. They have the absolute best prices and customer service! The truck is perfect too.Thank you so much!" he wrote.
