‘That’s A Heavy Fine. RUN:’ Man Goes to Home Depot. Then He Sees a Truck Spewing Diesel Fuel
"Is broke."
A man comes out of Home Depot to find a Dodge Ram spewing diesel fuel all over the parking lot. What is going on here?
TikTok user @hawoo_smiley posted a video about the leaking Ram on Aug. 22. In the video, which features the viral “Jet2 Advert” sound, @hawoo_smiley first shows viewers a massive spill of liquid on the parking lot.
He then pans over to a parked Dodge Ram. Fuel is pouring out of its closed fuel door.
In the caption, @hawoo_smiley indicates his shock. “All that diesel,” he writes. His video has roughly 650,000 views as of this writing.
Dodge Ram Diesel Fuel Mishap
In the comments, viewers expressed shock and confusion at the image of a Dodge Ram leaking diesel fuel.
One viewer offered a tongue-in-cheek professional assessment. “Mechanic here,” they wrote. “Is broke.”
A second self-described mechanic offered an equally helpful assessment. “Mechanic here. This actually happens because when the turbinator is connected to the motor making the combobulator to modulate and waste your time. Sorry, I don’t know what the [expletive] that is.”
A third user joked, “Hey, accidents happen sometimes. It’s hard to hold it. Everyone pees themselves at some point.”
Someone did offer a potential cause. “The lid on the transfer tank in the bed didn’t release pressure so it built up and pushed it out of the fill tube, filled the stock tank up, and overflowed it onto the ground,” they guessed.
Another user wrote, “Auxiliary bed tank valve stuck on, main tank full and still filling.”
Other viewers took the chance to reference the 1996 film Sling Blade. “I know what’s wrong with it,” wrote one person. “It ain’t got no gas in it.”
Why Is This Truck Spewing Diesel Fuel?
A Dodge Ram leaking fuel like this is a serious safety hazard. DiFeo’s Manahawkin Chrysler dealership recommends cutting the engine, keeping anything flammable away from it in the meantime, and getting it towed to the nearest mechanic as soon as possible. It also notes that you should avoid driving or parking on “corrosive” materials.
Back in 2018, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall of Dodge Ram 1500 in model years 2009-2012 due to the potential for detachment of the front fuel tank strap due to corrosion from road salt. That led to an increased risk of fuel leaks, which can quickly cause a fire on the roadway (or Home Depot, in this case).
A Ram mechanic will look at the entire fuel system and check the lines, pump, and various connections for evidence of failure. The issue could be anything from a clogged line to a crack in the fuel tank itself.
Via TikTok direct message, @hawoo_smiley told Motor1 that the Dodge Ram in the video is not his and he was merely documenting what he saw.
