Peugeot Let Designers Run Wild. This Is What They Came Up With

Peugeot turned this 504 Break into race car with wide fenders, a big wing, and a pink-and-white checkered cabin.

Automotive design is an interesting art. The radical styling ideas first sketched on paper rarely end up on the production car as imagined. However, automakers sometimes give their designers freedom to go wild, giving way to incredibly cool results. The creative minds at Peugeot have done just that, remaking the iconic 504 into a terrifying Pikes Peak weapon.

The wagon, built by Peugeot Design Lab, has all the goodies you’d expect—wide body front fenders with the tops of the wheels visible, a huge rear wing, gargantuan rear quarters, a large splitter, and an equally ridiculous diffuser. It doesn’t even have a rear bumper, with the rear wheels clearly visible.

There’s a roll cage inside for added protection, because we’d hate to see anything happen to the cabin. Peugeot finished the seats, dash, and floor in a checkered material that feels very retro. The 504 even has a rectangular steering wheel and the proper number of pedals.

The number 113 visible on the wheels, roof, and elsewhere on the car refers to the French rap group of the same name. The group won two awards at the 2000 Victoires de la Musique and drove a 504 onto the stage during a performance at the show.

The other two cars aren’t as wild as the Pikes Peak example, but they're still stunning. One has a gray-brown exterior with bright blue accents, while the other has a flat gray exterior with blue rear doors, a red hatch, and yellow accents. Both have turntables inside.
