Seat: What if a saloon like the Skoda Octavia were possible?

Although Seat's current range is comprehensive and very rational, we would like nothing more than for it to be expanded with slightly more niche models and versions to give customers more choice. For example, a saloon (and also an estate), a vehicle type that has been very present in the brand's history.

Yes, we are thinking of a successor to the Toledo and Exeo, aimed at families who don't want/need an SUV for their daily commute and trips. And if we look back, we will find the beautiful IBL prototype from 2011, the seed of the latest Toledo. 

Of course, despite being 13 years old, its lines couldn't be more attractive and elegant, mixed with just the right amount of sportiness. If it were to be launched on the market as it is (not at all unreasonable), it would be praised by the press and enthusiasts alike.

At this point, we are somewhat envious of Skoda's situation, which sells the Octavia and Octavia Combi for those who prefer it to the Karoq and Kodiaq.

In an ideal scenario, the production Seat IBL would be available with strong TSI petrol engines, economical TDI diesel engines and the always welcome light hybrid and plug-in hybrid options, the latter with more than 60 miles of electric range thanks to a large capacity battery and good aerodynamics. 

Of course, it would be an outstanding car in terms of rear roominess and boot volume, and the MQB Evo platform would guarantee the dynamic feel that always characterises Seat. Furthermore, the FR trim would add aesthetic spice to a car with plenty of styling freshness.

Obviously, prices would have to be in line with those of the Octavia family, which start at £26,775. The pity is that such a project is not planned and, in fact, Seat is working on other fronts for 2025.

In addition to the new Leon model year, which has brought equipment upgrades and the 204 PS plug-in hybrid powertrain, the Spanish firm will market the long-awaited restyling of the Ibiza and the Arona. There is also talk of an electric utility vehicle, a 'cousin' of the CUPRA Raval, in the coming years, but that possibility remains in the rumour mill.
