The final edition of the Japanese SUV is expensive, but it is a truly special car.

A little over a month ago, we told you about the Suzuki Jimny Mata, the final edition of the small Japanese SUV, limited to 150 examples for the Italian market. Well, it's now on sale for €33,900 (approx. £28,000), but don't run to a dealer because it won't be available in the UK.

It's true that, compared to the €17,000 that the standard Jimny cost when it went on sale in 2018, the price difference is abysmal (practically twice as expensive), although the lucky owners will take home a truly special car, to the point that it could be revalued.

If you recall, this 4x4 is based on the prototype shown at the Turin Motor Show 2024 and its surname, Mata, comes from the word Mata-ne, which in Japanese means 'see you soon'. Yes, it's a farewell, but in principle it won't be final, as I'll explain later.

To distinguish it from the conventional range, the car features a two-tone livery: bodywork in metallic Siberian Silver and roof, pillars and bonnet in matte Black. It is also identified by the Japanese character stickers 又 'MATA' and the vintage front grille.

As if that wasn't enough customisation, there are also specific alloy wheels, hard spare wheel cover and guards on both the front and rear, as well as on the sides of the vehicle.

Inside, features a 7-inch central monitor, rear sunblinds, a rubber boot mat and a model number plate. As it is not considered a passenger car but a commercial vehicle to circumvent environmental regulations, there are only two seats.

What do you think?

The engine remains the 1.5-litre, 102 PS naturally aspirated petrol engine, linked to a five-speed manual gearbox. All-wheel drive with a reduction gearbox remains, of course, plus two rigid axles and a beam and cross member chassis.

For those of us who don't live in Italy, we have to wait for the next Jimny which, to everyone's surprise, will not be electric, despite Suzuki's announcement a few years ago. Instead, it will be a biofuel compatible car. We'll see if it finally arrives in the UK.
