Xpeng lands in the UK: Tesla Model Y rival first to arrive
Pricing details aren't available yet.
Chinese auto-tech giant Xpeng has teamed up with International Motors Ltd. (IML), securing its entry into the UK market. The new partnership sees IML, a heavyweight in automotive distribution, bringing the Chinese firm’s futuristic fleet onto British roads, with its first launch set to be the sleek, all-electric G6 – a high-tech SUV with zero tailpipe emissions and plenty of smart features.
This arrival marks the latest chapter in Xpeng’s European expansion tour. Starting in Norway in 2020, the brand has been steadily rolling out its models across the continent, putting down roots from Spain to Sweden, Germany to Iceland. But the UK has always been one of the firm’s target markets in its European playbook, and the G6 could be the vehicle that makes that strategy hit the mark.

What’s all the fuss about the G6? It’s a compact SUV that blends cutting-edge tech with a serious driving range – think 800-volt architecture and superfast charging (up to 280 kW) and a suite of in-car tech fit for the gadget-obsessed. Tailored for European tastes, the G6 is geared up to be both road-ready and eye-catching, featuring a sophisticated AI-based operating system that might even give your smartphone a run for its money. And with a Euro NCAP five-star safety rating, it’s not just smart and sustainable – it’s also safe. Pricing is expected closer to the marque’s UK launch early next year. "Our partnership with IM Group marks an important step in Xpeng's global expansion," Alex Tang, Head of International business at Xpeng, commented. "We are excited to introduce UK consumers to a new standard in electric mobility, combining innovative technology with exceptional design to deliver an unparalleled experience that meets the demands of today's drivers. With a vision for AI-defined mobility, we aim to revolutionise the driving experience in the UK, making it safer, smarter, more sustainable and more pleasant in the near future."
With a goal to conquer over 60 markets globally by the end of 2025, Xpeng isn’t slowing down any time soon. They’re targeting ambitious sales figures, aiming for half of all sales outside China. If things go to plan, we could soon be spotting a whole lot of Xpengs zipping through roundabouts and queuing at the country’s increasingly crowded charging points.
