2024 Chevy Trax Bandit Outlaw Edition Is Cheap Way To Own Movie Car Tribute
Despite the tiny three-cylinder engine under the hood, this looks like a decent homage to the original movie car.
Smokey and the Bandit, an iconic 1977 action-comedy film, is a beloved classic that left an indelible mark on American pop culture. Directed by Hal Needham and starring the charismatic Burt Reynolds, the film revolves around the high-octane escapades of a charming truck driver, known as the Bandit, and his wily companion, Cledus Snow. The movie still creates excitement on the automotive scene even today and a number of tributes already exist to celebrate Bandit’s legacy. A brand new, 2024 Chevrolet Trax becomes the latest to get the famous hood bird.
The vehicle you see depicted in the gallery below was first unearthed by The Drive and is going to be sold during Mecum Auction’s Las Vegas event scheduled for November 9. It features a black exterior color with distinctive decals and Bandit lettering on the fenders, matching the movie car. That Turbo label on the hood probably promises more than the car delivers but nevertheless, it is a decent daily ride with a touch of uniqueness.

The ad description says this crossover has just 146 miles on the odometer. Power comes from a 1.2-liter turbocharged inline-three-cylinder engine that makes 137 horsepower (102 kilowatts) and 162 pound-feet (220 Newton-meters) of torque. A six-speed automatic delivers that power to the front wheels.
The 2024 Trax debuted in October last year and is now on sale at Chevy’s dealerships across the country with a starting price of $21,495 including $1,095 destination and handling fees. The crossover is available in five trim levels – LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ. The RS grades feature different grille and body trim, while the Activ gets titanium-chrome bits. We don't expect this particular Trax to be sold for much more than the most expensive model for the 2024 model year.
As for this Bandit tribute called Trax Bandit Outlaw Edition, it is by far not the first Bandit vehicle based on a modern car. For example, in October 2021, Toyo unveiled a Chevrolet Silverado with an aggressive body kit and the same distinctive decals around the exterior. The truck was displayed during the 2021 SEMA.
