That Was Quick: 1,000-Horsepower Hellephant Hemi Sold Out
The $30,000 crate motor disappeared in just 48 hours.
Hoping to shoehorn the high-powered Hellephant crate engine under the hood of your Dodge Challenger, Charger, Journey, or otherwise? Too bad; the 1,000-horsepower (745-kilowatt), 426-cubic inch Hellephant Hemi engine is completely sold out, just days after it went on sale.
According to FCA, reported by the site Allpar.com, the 1,000-hp, 950 pound-foot (1,288 Newton-meter) Hellephant crate engine sold out in a mere 48 hours after pre-orders opened up on "Hemi Day," April 26th. It appears Dodge and Hemi enthusiasts have big plans for the crate motor – no doubt many of them will show up at SEMA this year.
"Given the high demand and the hand-built, time-intensive build process, we have closed preordering for the 426 Hellephant Supercharged HEMI crate engine," FCA said in a statement to the site. "Based on preorders, the engine sold out in just two days."
The Hellephant Hemi crate engine debuted last year at SEMA with a restomodded 1968 Dodge Charger attached. At $29,995, the price of the unit includes a water pump, flywheel, oil pan for the front sump, supercharger and throttle body, coil packs, and fuel injector. For an extra $2,265, Hemi also includes an engine kit, which Mopar says "makes for a relatively simple plug-and-play by experienced installers."

FCA didn't give a total volume figure, but given the engine's high-horsepower and extreme price, we assume numbers are limited. Rumors hint at an initial run of just 100 units, with another limited run scheduled for next year due to overwhelming demand.
