Toyota Land Cruiser Given A Refresh For 2018

Toyota’s go-anywhere Land Cruiser 4x4 has been given a refresh for 2018, with a focus on improved comfort, new technology and added user-friendliness.

Revealed today at the Frankfurt motor zhow, the 2018 Land Cruiser is bigger than ever, with overall length increased by 60mm to 4,840mm (4,565mm for the three-door model). Aesthetic updates include a reshaped bonnet, while a new front grille and headlights are positioned higher to aid wading depth should you wish to venture off road.

Inside, a revised dashboard features a new instrument binnacle and centre console layout, while a new Touch 2 eight-inch infotainment system dominates the dash. Extra soft-touch materials make the Land Cruiser’s cabin marginally more pleasant than before, while a larger steering wheel taken from the Land Cruiser V8 (not sold in the UK) has been fitted.

Other creature comforts now available on the Land Cruiser include front seat ventilation, rear seat heating and automatic climate control. An electric, heated windscreen is also available, as well as heated washer nozzles, reverse-tilting door mirrors and a new smart key design.

Things under the bonnet remain unchanged: UK buyers will be offered just one engine, a 2.8-litre turbodiesel producing 174bhp and 332lb ft of torque. The 0-62mph run will take 12.7 seconds, while top speed is a dizzy 109mph. Officially, it’ll emit 194g/km CO2 and return 38.2mpg.

Toyota’s puts a lot of the Land Cruiser’s 'peerless off-road capability' down to its deformation-resistant body-on-frame construction. This allows easy maintenance and repair, while reducing levels of body twist when off-road.

Extra safety kit is fitted to high-grade models as standard, and available as an option on lesser Land Cruisers. This includes a pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam and lane departure alert.

Prices are yet to be announced but expect little change from the current £37,230 start price.
