The latest Audi RS4 gets 444bhp from a 2.9-litre bi-turbo V6
Details of the new Audi RS 4 Avant have been released at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. A perennial favourite with those wanting to get from zero to Ikea in under five seconds, come rain or snow, the new RS 4 Avant gets 444bhp from a Porsche-developed 2.9-litre bi-turbo V6.
Notably, peak torque is now 443lb ft – a massive increase from 317lb ft in the last RS 4 – and arrives across a broad rev range from 1900 - 5000rpm.
All that power is streamed through an eight-speed automatic gearbox to Audi’s permanent, active four-wheel drive quattro system, which explains a lot about how it gets to 62mph in 4.1sec, before storming on to 155mph or 174mph if you add the optional RS Dynamic Package.
Other key options will be 20-inch wheels over the standard 19s, a rear sports differential and ‘Dynamic Ride Control’ adaptive dampers, although you will be able to adjust steering, throttle and gearbox settings as standard.
The new Audi RS 4 Avant will arrive in showrooms at the beginning of 2018, and while UK pricing hasn’t been confirmed, German pricing suggests that it’ll come in at around £70k, which will put it conveniently in line with its nemesis the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Estate.
