Chrysler Pacifica Recalled For Faulty Curtain Airbags
This isn’t the minivan’s first recall regarding this defect.
The Breakdown:
- Chrysler is recalling 178,246 Pacifica and Voyager minivans for a potential issue with the curtain airbags.
- The curtain airbags may not retain sufficient pressure during deployment.
- This isn’t the first time Chrysler has recalled the minivans for this issue.
Chrysler is recalling the Pacifica and Voyager minivans for an airbag issue. Certain vehicles may have been built with curtain airbags that may not retain sufficient pressure during deployment, increasing the risk of an occupant being ejected through a side window during certain accidents.
The voluntary recall affects 178,246 2022-2026 minivans, with 30 percent of Pacifica and Voyager models likely suffering from the defect. Stellantis has recalled the models before for issues with the curtain airbags, issuing the first one last May, followed by a smaller one in September.
Since Chrysler issued the first recall for the faulty airbags last year, the automaker has been meeting regularly with its supplier. Then, in March, the automaker uncovered a manufacturing issue with certain additional curtain airbags, potentially being in noncompliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
According to the recall report, Chrysler will begin notifying owners within the month. The automaker will replace one or both of the airbags. The report makes no mention of any known injuries, accidents, or deaths related to the defect.
Motor1’s Take: Airbags are vital to modern automotive safety. Any defect with these can cause a vehicle to fall out of compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, and Chrysler is right to quickly address the issue.
