Here's Our First Look At The 'Extreme' Mercedes CLE With A V8
This will be the automaker’s second Mythos vehicle, a new ultra-luxury low-volume sub-brand.
THE BREAKDOWN:
- Mercedes-Benz is teasing a new ‘extreme’ AMG vehicle.
- It’s a CLE with a V8 engine that might make up to 650 horsepower.
- It will be Mercedes’ second Mythos vehicle.
Mercedes-Benz is teasing a new car. It’s a high-powered CLE that’s more than just a new AMG model. This is (reportedly) the V8 coupe that will serve as the brand’s second Mythos vehicle.
The car in question, which Mercedes describes as "extreme," will likely feature the brand’s new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter flat-plane-crank V8 engine. The powertrain could make as much as 650 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque in the coupe.
Mercedes Mythos is the ultra-luxury low-volume sub-brand that the automaker launched in 2022. The first Mythos car was the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, which had a limited production run of 250 examples.
The photos released by the company show the coupe cold-weather testing in Sweden. The car wears a tight-fitting camouflage wrap that fails to conceal the wide lower grille opening or the gigantic wing on the trunk. The car also appears to have a wider track.
Mercedes says in its press release that the "extreme model shows a relationship to the popular CLE, but promises an ever more uncompromising appearance," so it might get a unique name to reflect its specialness.
Motor1’s Take: Mercedes understands the four-cylinder C63 hybrid was a mistake, and this high-powered CLE feels like a proper course correction. We don’t know how many AMGs the company plans to make, but we expect the new V8 to power a range of models, and that’s great in our book.
