A used car salesman is so surprised to see this Toyota hybrid come through his dealership that he had to make a video about why it’s one of the most sought-after cars on the market.

TikTok user Dick’s Auto Group (@dicksautogrouporegon) is an Oregon-based used car dealer. In a video posted on Aug. 5, salesman Michael walks us through his latest trade-in.

“So we just had a customer trade in their 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid,” he says. “And it kind of got me thinking: We don’t see these get traded in very often. So let me take a minute and show you why the RAV4 is one of the most sought-after SUVs in 2025.”

According to Michael, “The 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE Premium is not something you see come available very often. We’ve got the LED headlights paired with the 18-inch, dark alloy wheels. And even though it’s not that fancy, most people seem to enjoy the sporty and modern styling of the exterior.”

He added, “Because this is the premium model, you’re going to have premium SofTex leather seating upholstery, all-weather floor mats, and a pretty solid, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.”

And that’s not all. Michael says, “Now, this is also the hybrid version, so you’re getting the 2.5 liter, inline, four-cylinder hybrid engine—with a combined 39 miles per gallon.”

Is the Used Toyota RAV4 Worth the Price?

According to Edmunds, a used 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid will cost you between $38-$40k, depending on the condition and trim level. A 2025 RAV4 Hybrid starts at an MSRP of $32k.

Tell us what you think!

The community on Reddit’s RAV4club recently discussed the price of a used 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid with 10,000 miles.

“[Out the door] price is about $45k after a $2k ‘discount,’” the original poster wrote. “Am I crazy or does this price seem high for it being used? Anyone willing to share what they paid for a used Limited?”

In the comments, one user said, “Toyota tax. That’s what I would expect a one-year-old Limited Hybrid to cost. You’re better off buying a new Limited.”

A second user echoed that sentiment. “Just buy a brand new one at that price,” they wrote. “You should be able to negotiate a 7-10% discount from MSRP. Don’t pay for any dealer add-ons. If you can’t get discounts, try Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, etc. You’ll have a harder time getting a good deal in California for sure.”

A third person agreed.

“Too high on a year-old car,” they wrote. “I paid $5k more for a brand new one with all the bells and whistles. I would expect a price of sub $40k with the 10k miles.”

Is the ‘Toyota Tax’ a Real Thing?

In a Reddit thread posted to whatcarsouldIbuy two years ago, users debated whether the premium car buyers pay for used Toyotas constitutes a tax and, if so, whether it’s still worth paying.

“Is the Toyota tax really still worth it?” the user asked. “I really would like another one, but I also need to make sure it’s worth it for an extra 20k miles.”

Someone replied, “They’re expensive because they’re good.”

A second person disagreed. “If you ask me, the longevity gap between Toyota and most other manufacturers has narrowed since the 90s,” they said. “Maybe other cars have improved; maybe Toyota is making vehicles with more and newer, less battle tested components.”

Despite this crosstalk, Toyota is still considered one of the most reliable and long-lasting cars on the market.
