This is the EV charger of the future - the all-purpose robot (video)
Huawei presents an automated artificial arm that replaces the driver when filling up the electric car
Getting out of the car, accessing the app and plugging in the charger will soon be a memory. Or, at least, that is how the Chinese electronics giant Huawei, who is also engaged in the electric vehicle business, envisions the charging of the future.
It does so, precisely, with an automated robot-arm that replaces the motorist in operations prior to recharging. Still unnamed, the system is shown in a video published by the company and circulated by eastern publications such as CarNewsChina.
Everything automated
In the video, which is about one minute long, we see a Maextro S800 appear and approach the charger column autonomously (thanks to its level 3 autonomous driving capability), after which the charging door opens and the robot-arm starts charging the battery, after which the amount to be paid is deducted.
The video does not give specifics on the column, but thanks to the foreign press we know that these are Huawei's 600 kW 'Superchargers', which provide up to 100 kWh of capacity in 10 minutes. Sales should start as early as this year.
Also for BYD and Xpeng
Once in operation, they will be compatible with all members of the Huawei Supercharging Alliance, a consortium established in April 2024 with the goal of installing 100,000 Superchargers in China. It comprises eleven local electric car manufacturers, including BYD, Xpeng, Li Auto, Aito, JAC and Great Wall.
As for the car, the Maextro S800 is part of the premium brand Maextro, a co-operation between the Shenzhen company and JAC. It went on sale last November.
