Challenger ElectriX: Hybrid motorhomes with a range of 560 miles
Challenger brings hybrid technology to camping with the X150 and X250 models
French manufacturer Challenger is sending out a clear signal for a more sustainable future in the motorhome segment with its new hybrid motorhomes ElectriX X150 and X250. While plug-in hybrids have long been common practice in passenger cars, this technology remains a rarity in the camper van sector. The X150 and X250 models are intended to fill this gap with innovative technology and practical design.
The centrepiece of the Challenger ElectriX models is the innovative plug-in hybrid drive, which combines the advantages of a combustion engine with a powerful electric motor. The combustion engine is designed to ensure a reliable range over longer distances, while the electric motor enables emission-free driving, especially in urban areas or when manoeuvring on campsites. The combined range is up to 560 miles.
The electric range alone is 50 to 62 miles, which should be more than sufficient for everyday use. Particularly noteworthy is the system's ability to automatically switch between the two drive modes depending on the driving situation in order to maximise efficiency and comfort.

Versatile design and well thought-out equipment
With lengths of 5.99 metres for the X150 and 6.36 metres for the X250, the ElectriX models offer generous living space in a compact layout. Despite the additional batteries, the dimensions remain identical to the conventional versions. Both models are based on the familiar Fiat Ducato chassis, which is also used by Sunlight, Forster and many other motorhome manufacturers.
The X150 offers the compact format of a panel van with the space of a fully-fledged motorhome, while the X250 also scores points with a modular rear garage concept that makes the storage space flexible to use. Challenger itself advertises its X-series models with the slogan, "The agility of a van with the comfort of a motorhome" - similar to the van series from Sunlight or Carado.

The interior of the X150 and X250 models combines modern design with a functional layout. Clear lines and light-coloured materials create a pleasant ambience that makes staying on board comfortable. The living area has a comfortable seating area complemented by a folding table, and the kitchen offers a two-burner hob, sink and fridge despite its compact dimensions.
The bathroom is equipped with a separate shower, which is not a matter of course in this size of vehicle. High-quality mattresses ensure a restful night's sleep, while numerous storage options make everyday life easier. The X250 has a rear area that is unique on the market: the SDR concept (Smart Dressing Room) allows the height of the wardrobe to be adjusted to adapt the garage space to your needs.

Alternatives from Volkswagen and Co.
With the ElectriX-X models, Challenger is entering a segment that has hardly been tapped into so far. Alternative vehicles such as the Ford Transit Nugget, the VW California or the hybrid motorhome from Thor Industries (Hymer's parent company for almost five years) also rely on innovative technologies, but offer different approaches in terms of range and equipment. With its plug-in hybrid approach, Challenger has created an interesting option for travellers who do not want to compromise on comfort and flexibility.

The introduction of the Challenger ElectriX models is an important step towards sustainable camping mobility. The X150 and X250 offer a sophisticated drive system, practical features and flexibility of use. The plug-in hybrid motorhomes are an interesting option for anyone looking for a future-proof motorhome thanks to their drive system and equipment starting at €99,990 (approx. £83,000).
Another plus point of the ElectriX models is the generous warranty of 7 years or 100,000 kilometres on the batteries. This emphasises the manufacturer's confidence in the longevity and reliability of the technology used and should also reassure potential buyers.
