In the world of used car sales, sometimes buyers come across a unicorn. These are highly sought-after, low-mileage vehicles from a reliable manufacturer.

A Toyota salesman in Ashland, Kentucky, recently came across what some may consider the used car find of a lifetime.

Noah Adams (@noahttoyota) recently posted a TikTok explaining what makes the car so special. The one question he has, however, is why anyone would trade it in.

“Explain this one to me. This makes literally no sense. It’s a 2025 RAV4 XLE, it’s only got 2,700 miles on it. Who traded this thing in already? Like, seriously?” he says.

Speculation & Anecdotes Abound

Commenters who replied to Adams’ video had their own thoughts as to why someone would trade in a RAV4 with so few miles. For some, it just boils down to someone buying a car they didn’t really need.

“I have 600 miles on my 2026 Trax that I got September 2025. I rarely drive it. I’m thinking of getting rid of it,” one said. Another person stated that they bought a car they rarely drove, writing, “Back in 2021 I got a 2020 Toyota Corolla it only had a little over 9,000 miles on it.”

Although the RAV4 consistently receives high marks from consumers, others suggested the owner may not have liked it.

“I once traded in a brand new Durango in at 1,500 miles. It sucked!” said one. Another surmised that “uncomfortable seats” in the Toyota RAV4 may be to blame.

Toyota RAV4: Best-Selling Car In The World

For both 2024 and 2025, Toyota’s crossover SUV moved a staggering number of units: 475,000 and 480,000, respectively.

So what makes the RAV4 so popular? For decades, Toyota and its luxury counterpart, Lexus, have topped Consumer Reports’ rankings for used-car reliability.

Reliability is an understandable concern for people looking to buy used. From 2019 to 2025, the cost of a used car jumped 40%. Before COVID, the mean price of a three-year-old used vehicle was $22,000. By 2025, that figure had jumped to $31,000.

Wealthvieu does provide some 2026 data, however, that may have those worried about their next used car purchase breathe a sigh of relief. The outlet reports that the average price of a used car driven around for three years is $30,000, a slight decrease from last year.

The average price of a new car in 2026 has hit $50,000. So the low-mileage RAV4 probably won’t stay on the lot for long, which is why Adams is confused about why someone traded it in.

What do you think?

Cars.com features several 2024 RAV4s for sale for roughly $30,000. Many have much higher mileage than the one on Adams' lot. Depending on the price, it would likely be a smart purchase for a used car buyer looking for a vehicle they can drive for years to come.
