The C8 Corvette Might Be Losing A Surprisingly Useful Feature
Previous iterations of the C8 have had a locking fuel door, but it appears Chevy may have discontinued it this year.

Automakers often make abrupt changes to a car’s available equipment, whether it's due to parts or shifting market conditions. But this alleged change made to the 2026 Corvette feels different. The automaker has supposedly dropped the locking fuel door on the C8, and it is unclear why.
Corvette Blogger uncovered the change via the owner’s manual. The most recent version no longer includes any information under the Passive Locking section about the fuel door lock, which was specifically called out in the 2025 book.
The publication also found a Mid-Engine Corvette Forum thread where owners reported the status of their fuel doors. One owner with a 2026 E-Ray, built last August, had the feature, while another owner with a Stingray, built in April, did not.
Motor1 has reached out to Chevrolet to confirm the change and find out the reason for the mid-year change, and we will update this story when we hear back. Reading through the forum post, it seems like it was a well-liked feature, which was available on previous Corvette generations.
Motor1’s Take: General Motors is famous for going to extremes to save a penny, and we hope that this isn't the case this time. It can't be that expensive to offer the feature on a sports car that starts at $75,000.
