Honda Dealership Sends Customer On a Test Drive. Then He Realizes The Car Doesn't Have Oil
"All these places have their 50-point inspection, and nothing gets checked."
Even the most benighted drivers understand that you need oil in the car to drive it. It lubricates the many moving parts, and without it, the vehicle will rapidly die.
With that in mind, it would be pretty surprising to find a Honda dealership sending customers for a test drive on a 2015 CR-V that had essentially no oil in it, right? You would think so.
Well, strange things happen in the world of used car shopping, as loyal Motor1 readers know.
'There Is Literally No Oil On That Dipstick'
TikToker @Bahama_Blue, clad in sunglasses with long curly hair, addressed his followers in a video he shot on the lot of an undisclosed Honda dealership. Motor1 reached out to @Bahama_Blue about his video to determine the dealership but he didn’t immediately respond. He walked over to the white SUV to show us.
“Hi, so you guys won't believe this, but we're actually at a Honda dealership here, and we're taking a look at this Honda CR-V that we just test drove. It's a 2015, and they're wanting $16,000, almost $17,000 for but see what I'm about to show you is actually gonna be crazy, considering this is a dealership that is selling this car and just took us on a test drive.”
@Bahama_Blue popped the hood of the hood of the CRV and invited the viewers over for a closer look.
“Let me show you,” he said, drawing out the dipstick. “There's absolutely no oil. Barely some on the very tip of that dipstick. Let's do that again. Let's do that again. Let's go right back in there. All the way down, right back up. No edits. Here. There is literally no oil on that dipstick.”
It’s hard to understand how something like that could happen at a dealership, but mistakes happen, apparently. A surprising number of people claim that someone tried to sell them a car with no oil in it, or otherwise sent them onto the road with no oil in the car.
TikTok user @rigoapontesantiago responded to the video by observing that @Bahama_Blue’s demonstration didn’t necessarily prove that the car was without oil.
“Low doesn't mean is with no oil. it's like 1.5 quarts low,” he wrote.
Some online discourse points to this being true, but it’s also a potentially risky move when buying a used car.
“All these places have their 50 point inspection and nothing gets checked,” @logansrun31 wrote in the comments.
Motor1 contacted the creator via TikTok. We'll update this if he responds.
