LS-Swap Your RC Car With This Scale-Model V-8 Engine
This small, build-it-yourself V-8 doesn't run, but the accessories spin and it looks fantastic.
We've been spending more time perusing the world of tiny engines and happened upon this extremely detailed 1:10 scale V-8. Sadly, this one doesn't run. But it could be one of the best-detailed model engines we've ever seen. It's designed to fit in 1:10 scale radio-controlled cars for an extra dose of realism, or just as a neat-o display in your car-themed home office. Either way, we want it.
It's made by Mad RC, and for the record, there's no official mention that this is a General Motors LS V-8. However, the intake manifold and coils with wires on the valve cover are a dead match for the popular engine, so yes, you can now LS-swap your RC buggy.
And while the engine doesn't run, it does have a small electric motor that turns like a virtual crankshaft. There's even an optional supercharger that spins once the engine is plugged in.
The model is made of plastic, but you don't glue it together like a traditional plastic model. Tiny screws and fasteners keep all the components together, and there are quite a few pieces in the kit. It's fully dressed with an alternator, air conditioner, a power steering pump, and a plethora of idler pulleys.
A small belt connects them all with the crankshaft, and they all spin when running. Detail work on the heads and front engine cover is extraordinary, capturing various castings from the real engine. It comes molded in silver and black, or you can paint it for a bit more realism.
The scale model V-8 may not run like other tiny engines we've seen, but it's also not as expensive. It's listed at Stirlingkit for $109.99, or $169.99 if you add the supercharger. Anyone want to see us build one? Jump into the comments and let us know.
