BYD Atto 2: Is this going to shock the competition?
To be unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show, it will be produced in Hungary.
The doors of the Brussels Motor Show 2025 will open on 10 January, and among the debuts will be the BYD Atto 2, the compact electric crossover which, after being shown in China (under the name Yuan Up), is ready to land in Europe. This model is part of a segment occupied by the Kia EV3, the MG4 and the Peugeot 2008, among others.
While we wait to see it live, we already know a few technical details about the BYD Atto 2, which we'll reveal below.
Top marks
Before arriving at the Brussels Motor Show, the BYD Atto 2 stopped off at the Green NCAP test centre, the European body that assesses the efficiency of cars marketed on the Old Continent. The Chinese crossover came away with five stars (top marks) and an average score of 96%.
A first-class report card that is of course due to the 100% electric powertrain, but that's not all. Green NCAP focuses on overall efficiency, which for the Atto 2 means an average consumption of 21.9 kWh per 100 km (2.8 mi/kWh).
This figure rewards the system comprising a front electric motor with 177 PS and 290 Nm of torque powered by a 42.4 kWh battery which, according to the organisation's tests, covers an average of 152 miles (between town and motorway in different weather conditions). The figures calculated according to the WLTP cycle are different: 194 miles on average, 288 miles in town.
As far as dimensions are concerned, the BYD Atto 2, based on BYD's 3.0 modular platform, should be the same as the Yuan Up: 4.31 metres long, 1.83 wide, 1.68 high and a wheelbase of 2.62. Weight is low: 1,590 kg.

It's still too early to talk price as its counterpart sold in China has a price list starting at around £10,800, while in Europe it should cost a little more. But not because of customs duties: the BYD Atto 2 will in fact be assembled in BYD's Hungarian factory, just like the Atto 3 and the Dolphin.
To find out more, just wait for the press conference scheduled for 10 January at the Brussels Motor Show 2025.
