In the Christmas video at the end the rear of the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio, expected in 2025, appears for the first time

The new Alfa Romeo Stelvio is one of the most eagerly awaited models of 2025. A completely new model, rethought from top to bottom. Style, mechanics, engines: it will share nothing with the current generation, apart from its name and segment (D SUV).

We know little about it and there has been no official statements about its styling, leaving it up to the coming months to begin unveiling of its design. We did, however, get our first clue recently with Alfa Romeo's Christmas greetings video where, after retracing the events of 2024 now coming to an end, we read the phrase 'Now let's accelerate into 2025' accompanied by a triangular light signature. It will in fact be the design that will characterise the rear of the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio.

First confirmations

As we anticipated some time ago with an initial render, in fact, the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio will change radically and at the rear will be characterised not only by the now classic coast-to-coast lighting, but will be extended with two oblique segments joining at the centre, immediately above the number plate. These rumours are confirmed by the official teaser video.

As for the rest, Alfa Romeo's mouths are sealed and no other teaser is online. According to the information we have been able to gather over the last few months, the company's mid-size SUV will feature a completely revised front end, with a diamond-shaped shield and the logo placed on top of the bonnet, as on the Junior. There will be no lack of reminders of the past, with the three typical openings of the Alfa Romeo 'trilobo' evoked by the shield and LED daytime running lights.

(Not) just electric

Based on the STLA Large platform from Stellantis, the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be equipped with 100% electric powertrains, but not solely. As anticipated by Jean-Philippe Imparato in one of his last interviews as Alfa CEO, the mid-size SUV could also be fitted with petrol units if sales of electrics fail to meet expectations. All thanks to the flexibility offered by the platform, a multi-energy one designed to accommodate different types of powertrains, as demonstrated in the new Dodge Charger Daytona, the first Stellantis model to use the STLA Large.

What do you think?

The US muscle car will also feature a 3.0-litre straight-six engine, but we do not know if the same will happen to the new Stelvio. The possibility of seeing a range extender version remains open, with a small petrol engine used solely to recharge the batteries.

There will of course also be a new Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, purely electric but capable of not making us regret (at least in performance) the current generation. In fact, it should reach 1,000 PS, surpassing the world of super SUVs and entering the world of hypercars. The magic of electric.
