After a 2024 full of novelties, Mazda's 2025 promises to be just as interesting. The Hiroshima-based manufacturer is reportedly at work on two of the most important models in its entire range, namely the new Mazda6 and the future generation of the CX-5.

The former has already been announced and unveiled (but not in Europe, at the moment), while for the SUV, the first details could be provided in the new year. In addition, the 2025 MY of the CX-60 has already been announced.

The Mazda CX-5 is one of the Japanese manufacturer's best-selling models and it is possible that in 2025 we will get some previews of the new production model that will arrive - it is said - in 2026.

As well as the shape of the C-segment SUV, it remains to be seen what the engine choices will be, with many rumours pointing to the possible debut of a full hybrid petrol powertrain.

The 2025 update of the CX-60 keeps the shape and engines unchanged, which remain the 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid petrol with 328 bhp and the 3.3-litre mild hybrid diesel with 200 bhp and 249 bhp.

The main changes include the addition of the Zircon Sand Metallic colour and more interior customisation options. Also making their debut are the two new Homura Plus and Takumi Plus trims, while the suspension system has been upgraded to improve stability and comfort, with more responsive dampers and softer rear springs.

Pre-orders are already open in China, while for Europe there are no official announcements yet. There is talk of the EZ-6, the spiritual heir to the Mazda6. At 4.92 metres long, the Japanese saloon has a sharp look and traditional proportions, plus a new dashboard layout. With a 14.6-inch infotainment display and a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display.

What do you think?

In China, the Mazda is offered in 100 per cent electric format and as an EV with a petrol range extender. In the former case, there are two 56.1 kWh and 68.8 kWh batteries combined with a 258 bhp rear-mounted electric motor for a maximum range of 373 miles in the CLTC cycle.

The EREVs are powered by a 95 bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine that acts as a generator for the 217 bhp electric motor. The electric range is 124 miles, while the overall range is 807 miles in the CLTC cycle. It remains to be seen whether (and in what format) we will see it in our region.
