Audi A6 2.0 TDI ultra sets Guinness World Record after travelling in 14 countries without refueling

An unmodified Audi A6 2.0 TDI ultra has gone through 14 countries without having to refuel, thus setting a new Guinness World Record.

An unmodified Audi A6 2.0 TDI ultra has gone through 14 countries without having to refuel, thus setting a new Guinness World Record.

For the record-breaking attempt Audi joined forces with RAC and they used an A6 2.0 TDI ultra driven by motoring journalist Andrew Frankel and racing driver / TV presenter Rebecca Jackson. The frugal mid-size premium sedan managed to cover an impressive 1158.9 miles (1,865 km) during the almost non-stop 28-hour trip through the following 14 countries: Netherlands, Hungary, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia.

The car was driven at an average speed of around 50 mph (80 km/h) and returned 75.9 mpg UK (63.2 mpg US or 3.7 liters / 100 km) which is actually better than the official 67 mpg UK (55.8 mpg US or 4.2 liters / 100 km) figure released by Audi.

As a final note, it should be mentioned the route was carefully selected in order to avoid congested areas which obviously would have affected the car's fuel economy.
