What does the GMC Sierra All Terrain X get that the standard All Terrain does not?
GMC's offroadiest Sierra ditches the chrome.
– Detroit, Michigan
Do you and your bros love trucks? Trucks in the mud, trucks on the trail, and trucks purposely built and designed (and styled) for super-extreme fun? Man oh man, does GMC have just the Sierra flavor for you.
In all seriousness, while this GMC Sierra All Terrain X does seem suited for the X-Games set, it’s also a very functional vehicle.
The GMC Sierra All Terrain already packs plenty of off-road friendly features, a beefy Eaton locking rear differential, the Z71 suspension package with Rancho monotube shocks, hill-descent control, and shielding for the underbody transfer case.
The All Terrain X takes things even further by adding proper off-road tires and a stainless-steel exhaust. That equipment helps in bumping the horsepower output for the 5.3-liter V8 from 355 to 365.
Torque remains unchanged at 383 pound-feet and is routed through an 8-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels through the aforementioned transfer case. The Sierra 1500 All Terrain X is rated to tow 9,100 pounds.
The All Terrain X package is only available on the SLT crew-cab with the short-box, so expect to spend upwards of $51,530 if you’re ticking any additional options boxes. At that price it’s going to be competing with the Ram Power Wagon and even the Ford F150 SVT Raptor (although that’s an entirely different beast.)
The X also sports a bed-mounted rollbar and completely omits the chrome, which does lot to transform the look of the truck into something decidedly more purpose-built.
