‘What If I Was Driving A Camry Or Something?!’: Uber Eats Driver Picks Up Order. Then He Sees What It Is—And Has A Meltdown
'I know you only got a $5 tip on that order.'
An Uber Eats driver thinks it’s going to be a normal day on the job. Then, he gets an order for a big-screen TV.
TikTok user @ging_bbu posted a video from the van he used to transport the TV. He is clearly in the process of crashing out.
“Who Uber Eats a 75-inch TV?” he yells. “What if I was driving like a Camry or something? Who’s gonna get that?”
Obviously, @ging_bbu is going to get that. “I’m tired, mane,” he writes in the caption.
Who Orders A Giant TV On Uber Eats?
In the comments section of the video, several delivery drivers said they’ve also experienced this kind of bizarre order on Uber Eats or another platform.
“I drove a Mini Cooper and had to Uber Eats four tires to a dealership and they didn’t tip,” wrote one driver.
A second person said, “I was literally driving my little Mazda for Uber Eats and someone ordered a door.”
A third person said they’re part of the problem. “I’ve used DoorDash for some CRAZY [expletive] dude.”
Others couldn’t help but take the opportunity to make a joke. “I usually eat a 35” TV. I couldn’t imagine 75,” joked one such viewer.
Others explained why someone might order a TV on DoorDash. “This is actually hilarious,” one person wrote. “My boyfriend DoorDashed a 70-inch TV last week because it was cheaper with DoorDash deals than going to the store.”
So, Wait, Uber Eats Really Delivers TVs Now?
According to this press release, Uber Eats and Best Buy announced a partnership last fall that allows customers to order certain electronics and appliances on Uber Eats.
Uber’s head of grocery and retail for North America, Hashim Amin, said that today’s consumer expects to be able to order the delivery of more than just groceries.
But the practice appears to have started before the official partnership. A search of Reddit shows that it’s been possible to purchase TVs on Uber Eats from places like Costco for at least several years.
So, how do delivery drivers deal with these kinds of orders? One Uber Eats driver posted to the Uber Eats Tips & Tricks Facebook group in 2024 to ask. The driver said that they use a bike to deliver orders and were similarly confused when they showed up at Walmart and needed to pick up three 70-inch flat-screen TVs.
In the comments, several people posted photos of people mounting TVs to bikes, which is obviously not advisable. “Ingenuity,” joked one person.
