‘Did The Same Last Week’: Man Pulls Into Parking Lot. Then He Realizes Nissan Driver Is Unknowingly About To ‘Blow Up’ His Own Car

'This must be why you can’t rev past like 4k in newer cars…'

A TikTok user says he stepped in after noticing a parked Nissan making a loud noise—only to realize the elderly driver inside apparently still had his foot pressed on the gas pedal.

Teddy Holtrop (@tylerholtrop) filmed himself approaching the vehicle after hearing what sounded like the engine aggressively revving.

“He’s going to blow his car up, bro. I’ve got to let him know,” Holtrop says in the video before walking over to the Nissan.

When Holtrop approached the car, he found an older man sitting in the driver’s seat with the engine still roaring. After trying to get his attention, the driver eventually rolled down the window.

“Sir, your foot’s on the gas,” Holtrop tells him.

“Oh,” the driver responds.

The interaction was brief, but Holtrop later admitted in the caption that he could relate to the mistake himself.

“No joke, did the same thing last week,” he wrote. “I can’t even blame bro.” As of this writing, the video has generated more than 777,300 views.

Nissan Revving While In Park: Will It ‘Blow Up’?

Probably not—at least not in the dramatic way Holtrop joked about in the video.

If a car is in park and someone accidentally keeps their foot on the gas pedal, the engine will rev loudly, but the car itself usually won’t move because the transmission is disengaged. Modern vehicles also typically have rev limiters that prevent the engine from spinning past a certain point.

That said, constantly revving the engine while the car is sitting still is still not great for it.

Keeping the gas pedal pressed down for too long while the car is parked can still be rough on the engine, especially in older cars or those with mechanical problems. Cars rely in part on airflow while driving to keep temperatures down, so revving the engine hard while sitting still can build heat quickly with little cooling.

In most situations, though, accidentally pressing the gas pedal in park for a few seconds is more startling and noisy than catastrophic.

The bigger risk is often confusion behind the wheel itself. If a driver accidentally shifts into gear while pressing the accelerator, the car could suddenly lurch forward or backward. That seemed to be part of why Holtrop reacted so quickly after hearing the Nissan revving in the parking lot.

Viewers Debate Older Drivers

Commenters who watched Holtrop’s video were stunned by the driver’s apparent lack of awareness and questioned whether people making mistakes like that should still be behind the wheel.

“AGE LIMITS FOR DRIVING,” one commenter wrote.

“We need to make owning a license way more difficult, man,” another viewer argued.

“Yet he’s behind the wheel,” another person remarked. “Ridiculous.”

“He thought they [were] cutting the grass,” a fifth commenter joked.

Several viewers also fixated on how casually the driver reacted after Holtrop pointed out what was happening.

“Mf said, ‘oh,’” one person wrote alongside a crying-laughing emoji.

“‘Oh,’ he says,” another commenter echoed.

Others turned the moment into a joke about aging politicians, suggesting the man was qualified for Congress or even the presidency.

“He’d make a great president,” one viewer joked.

“He’s got my vote in 28,” another person added.

“Give that man the power to write laws, NOW #USA,” another commenter wrote.

What do you think?

“Get this guy into Congress,” another quipped, poking fun at the age of many lawmakers.
