A delivery driver is seconds away from dropping off a Burger King order when the customer abruptly cancels. He thinks it was intentional, and he is striking back.

TikTok creator Micro Frost (@startrekjammies) posted a video about the experience on May 7.

“I just drove 20 minutes to deliver somebody’s Burger King for, like, little to no tip, and that’s fine,” he says to start the video. “But then when I got to their house, they cancelled the order right when I arrived because I guess they’re trying to get [expletive] for free.”

And what was his response? “Oh, I delivered it,” he says. “I delivered it pretty hard. I threw that [expletive] at their front door, and I also threw some garbage into their bushes.”

Viewers React To The Burger King Delivery Driver’s Crash-Out

In the comments section of the video, viewers reacted to Micro Frost’s crash out. Many are of the opinion that he was justified.

“Also, if you don’t have money to tip these drivers properly, you should not be ordering delivery,” said one person.

“‘Why not keep the food?’ Because it’s Burger King,” joked a second person.

“Not me,” said a third person. "I would have had Burger King and still got paid for the delivery.”

Micro Frost said, “You don’t get paid if they cancel before you mark delivered. And I don’t like Burger King. It looked better as a mess on their doorstep.”

Someone else asked, “Why would you care? It’s not personal.” Another person replied for the driver. “He has wasted his gas driving 20 minutes out of the way for him to not get paid at all,” they wrote.

Cancelling Delivery Orders Before They Arrive

What It Means For Customers

Micro Frost didn’t specify what delivery service he was driving for, and the rules for order cancellations vary based on the company.

Customers can cancel DoorDash orders right up until the order is delivered on the app or on desktop. When it comes to refunds or credits, how much customers receive depends on a few factors, including whether the merchant confirmed the order and a Dasher was already assigned to it.

If the restaurant has not confirmed the order and a Dasher hasn’t been assigned, the customer generally gets a full refund. If the restaurant hasn’t confirmed but a Dasher has been assigned (or the reverse), customers can receive partial refunds. If a restaurant confirmed the order and a Dasher has been assigned, the policy states there will be no refund.

Uber Eats policy states that customers can cancel orders if they haven’t been accepted by the restaurant, but cancellations made after the store has accepted may incur charges. The company also states that it may be able to offer adjustments on orders that are canceled due to situations like an outage, known issues, or excessively late deliveries.

Apparently, these policies don’t stop delivery drivers from feeling like customers may be working to find loopholes that allow them to get free food and/or credits. One Uber Eats driver went viral recently after calling out what she viewed as an attempt from a customer to secure free food.

What It Means For Drivers

For Uber Eats drivers, if a customer cancels while they are en route to the drop-off location, the driver will be paid the pickup fee. While DoorDash has literature on whether merchants get paid for canceled orders, it does not appear to have an official policy on whether drivers do.

According to users in a Reddit thread posted to r/doordash_drivers, whether drivers get paid for canceled orders depends. As one user put it, "If Dasher doesn't reach restaurant, cancellation pays Dasher zero. If Dasher makes it to store, Dasher gets half pay for cancellation. If Dasher receives food, cancellation means free food. If Dasher makes it within ~0.2 miles of customer, cancellation means full pay instead of half."
