The New 911 Turbo S Debuts Today: Watch the Livestream
The most powerful 992 debuts today, and we expect it to sport a new hybrid powertrain. Watch the reveal event right here.
This year's IAA Mobility Show in Munich is unsurprisingly heavy on electric vehicles. But, Porsche is bringing some good-old internal-combustion fun, enhanced by electricity. Today, it unveils the new, 992.2 Turbo S, which, like the 911 Carrera GTS, we expect to go hybrid.
Porsche's new T-Hybrid system uses a small battery to power a motor sandwiched between a 3.6-liter flat-six and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, and an electric turbocharger. The rumor mill suggests that the new Turbo S will get two electric turbochargers for a monster power output. Expect a horsepower figure starting with a "7," a 911 road-car first.
Beyond the hybrid system, the new 911 Turbo shouldn't break from tradition. So, expect a wider body, standard all-wheel drive, and in "S" form, lots of standard performance goodies like carbon-ceramic brakes. And naturally, a tall base price.
Check back for more on the new Turbo S when Porsche pulls the covers off at 9:00 AM eastern.
