The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Just Set Another Lap Record
The Taycan Turbo GT beat the previous record by 6.73 seconds, set by the Taycan Turbo S in 2020.
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT can add another lap record to its growing portfolio. Last month, the electric sedan set a new fast lap at Road Atlanta, beating the previous record by 6.73 seconds, which was set by a Taycan Turbo S. The Taycan Turbo GT lapped the 2.54-mile track in 1: 27.15 despite a few damp spots, setting a record for production electric vehicles.
The car that set the new time was a Purple Sky 2025 Taycan equipped with the lightweight Weissach Package, which swaps the rear seats for a carbon fiber shelf and adds a fixed rear wing. The Taycan with the pack can have up to 485 pounds of downforce.
Porsche introduced the Taycan Turbo GT over a year ago as the brand's most powerful car ever. The EV produces up to 1,092 horsepower, needing just 2.1 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour from a standstill. The standard output is 777 hp and 998 pound-feet of torque, which is still an astounding amount of power.
Porsche completed its record run at Road Atlanta with the car's Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS NF0 summer performance tires set to 37 psi. The automaker also engaged Track Endurance Mode to lower the battery's starting temperature before the two attempts. Porsche set the previous record in 2020 with a Taycan Turbo S, completing a lap in 1:33.88.
The Taycan Turbo GT's latest record arrives after the car ran a 1:42.1 at Brazil's Interlagos circuit in March. The car also set a record at the Nürburgring in early 2024.
