This BMW M240i from Manhart trumps the M2

On request, the MH2 500 II can be equipped with two additional power levels

The BMW M240i xDrive (G42) with its 374 PS 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine is less underpowered. 4.3 seconds is enough to accelerate the compact sports car to 62 mph as standard. However, this does not stop anyone from adding even more power.

Manhart has now given the little brother of the BMW M2 "a little more power"... 129 PS to be exact. Its MH2 500 II programme name already gives a subtle indication of how much is available at the end of the overhaul - a full 503 PS. This beats the standard M2 with 480 PS by a smooth 23 PS.

To enable the M240i to annoy its big brother, the Manhart technicians gave the in-line six-cylinder a new intake manifold with integrated intercooler, a downpipe including a 300-cell HJS catalytic converter and an in-house auxiliary control unit that is tuned to 102-octane petrol.

Once ignited, the exhaust flows out through stainless steel Grail rear silencers with flap control and four matt black tailpipes. The revisions to the engine of the MH2 500 II generate a total maximum torque of 633 Nm.

But according to Manhart, this is by no means the end of the story. The Wuppertal tuners can offer even more power with Stage 2 and Stage 3 performance upgrades. Various tuners and the scene have shown time and again that BMW's B58 turbo engine is quite capable of handling performance upgrades, as G-Power demonstrated about a year ago.

Thanks to the xDrive all-wheel drive, the power can be transferred to the road quite well with the standard equipment. Additional grip is provided by 9.0x20-inch double-spoke alloy wheels with 245/30R20 tyres on the steering axle and 10.5x20-inch wheels with 285/25R20 tyres on the drive axle.

In order to add more stability to the lateral dynamics, Manhart gives its MH2 500 II rebound and compression damping including adjustable Variant 3 coilover suspension from KW. Those who prefer an even lower ride height can opt for tuned lowering springs from H&R. The brake system, which remains fitted as standard in the project vehicle, can also be customised on request.

To ensure that the performance upgrade also has a visual impact, the project M240i was wrapped in a pastel light blue colour and fitted with some carbon aerodynamic parts. The front spoiler, side skirt elements, diffuser, a massive rear spoiler and the black decor ensure an overall beefy appearance.

A revised BMW M steering wheel, covered in a leather/Alcantara combination and with spokes painted in black, ensures the right feeling in the 2 Series. On top of this, there are carbon-fibre gearshift paddles.
