Porsche turns the Macan Turbo into a boat
This is the second project undertaken by the Frauscher yard in collaboration with Porsche. It is the 'closed' version, measuring 8.67 metres in length.
What you see in the rendering on the cover is the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom, the German shipyard's second project developed in collaboration with the Zuffenhausen-based company, following on from the Fantom Air.
As its name suggests, this is the 'closed' version of the original boat, which is therefore also intended for medium-distance cruising and will make its debut at the Düsseldorf boat show in January 2025. Under the rear bonnet is the powertrain derived from the new electric Macan in Turbo version. Let's see what it looks like.
A lake boat for mini-cruises
The new Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom is a boat designed for mini-cruises on lakes or relatively calm bodies of water. It can accommodate up to seven people, is 8.67 metres long and 2.49 metres wide and, according to the manufacturer, is capable of unprecedented acceleration performance and a top speed of 90 km/h (55 mph).
It differs from its predecessor in that it is 'closed', with a covered front deck, a more classical appearance and a lower cabin that can also accommodate overnight guests.
Mechanically, the powertrain of a Porsche Macan Turbo has been installed under the rear bonnet, meaning it is capable of generating up to 544 PS of power, which can be managed by a Z-drive system with control units installed in a waterproof box bearing the Porsche logo.
According to the manufacturer, the motor's efficiency has been optimised for use in aquatic environments through the use of new, dedicated, state-of-the-art power electronics, as well as the use of silicon carbide in the pulse inverter to achieve particularly high switching frequencies.
Like the engine, the high-voltage battery with a gross capacity of 100 kWh was also taken from a Macan and fitted to a new-generation suspension system capable of absorbing the shocks that inevitably occur on waves and at high speeds.

A designer interior
The manufacturer has not yet released any photos of the cockpit or interior, but according to the press release, climbing up from the platform at the rear leads to a large saloon equipped with cushions for sunbathing. At the front is the cockpit designed by Studio F.A. Porsche in Zell am See and Style Porsche in Weissach, which, according to the shipyard, played an important role in the design of the boat.
In particular, a steering wheel from the German SUV was chosen combined with seats in the company's characteristic design, with logos on the headrests.

The prizes
The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom will hit the marine market in 2025, with a starting price of €572,934 (approx. £477,000). All the planned models will be produced at the Frauscher shipyard in Ohlsdorf, Austria. The first model, which will be presented live at Düsseldorf, is scheduled for January 2025 and will be painted in the Porsche Oakgreen Metallic Neo colour.
