The Neue Klasse platform will mark a new beginning for BMW. The new architecture will bring with it many updates in terms of batteries and electric motors, not to mention the aesthetic changes, which will be many.

The first model based on the Neue Klasse will arrive in 2025 and will be the iX3, the new generation of which will sever ties with the current BMW by offering a completely different style.

The new styling course

To imagine the styling of the future iX3, one only has to look at the Vision Neue Klasse X concept, the patents that leaked online recently, and the first official photos. At an approximate length of 4.70 m, the new BMW will offer a very minimalist look, with a frontal area characterised by a small illuminated double kidney grille and slim, sharp LED headlights.

Definitely striking is the grille, which could have active slats capable of adjusting their inclination to improve aerodynamics as much as possible according to speed.

Many innovations will also be found on board, with the iX3 expected to take up some of the technologies seen in the concept. These should include customisable ambient lighting, a 3D head-up display, and a slim instrument cluster integrated between the dashboard and windscreen.

More efficiency and more range

What do you think?

From a technical point of view, BMW's most significant innovation should be the adoption of new cylindrical battery cells, supplied by companies such as CATL, Eve, and Envision AESC, to replace traditional prismatic cells. Precise details on the chemistry used have not yet been revealed, but it is confirmed that the system will operate at a voltage of 800 volts, a choice that promises significant advantages in terms of efficiency and charging speed.

Another key aspect will be the range, which is expected to increase by 30 per cent compared to current models. According to estimates based on the WLTP cycle, the new iX3 should exceed 373 miles on a single charge. As for engines, single rear-engine and twin-engine versions with all-wheel drive are planned.
